One thing that the pandemic showed us is that weddings don’t always have to be a huge affair. A more intimate event can be just as wonderful as those with an overflowing guest list. Although we have seen an end to the pandemic there are still many couples opting for a more bijou wedding celebration.
So what is a micro wedding? Put simply, they are weddings on a smaller scale. There are a few differing ideas as to how many people constitute a micro wedding, I’d say 30 or less and I include the wedding party in this. A smaller guest list may mean leaving some people out of your celebrations.
There are a number of benefits for those that are considering a micro wedding
Venue Choice.
A smaller wedding can provide you with the opportunity to get creative with your choice of venue. Maybe you have a favourite bar or restaurant where you can book out a private room. You could book out a whole house, have your guests stay over and hold your wedding across a few days. Alternatively you could have your wedding within your own home or garden.
Easier to plan.
Planning a micro wedding can be so much easier, less people should mean less hassle. You won’t have to worry about extensive seating plans, there will be fewer dietary restrictions, less invites to send out and RSVPs to chase up. A micro wedding can also take less time to plan which means you could have your wedding sooner rather than later.
More eco friendly
By choosing a micro wedding you can also help the planet. Less people should mean less waste. Less people traveling to and from your wedding which means a lower carbon footprint. The overproduction of food at weddings can play a substantial role in creating waste. Therefore having a micro wedding means less food waste.
Budget flexibility
Let’s be honest you may not be able to afford a wedding that caters for all and sundry and that’s ok. Your wedding should be about celebrating your love not about how much debt you’ve got into because you’re trying to keep up with the many unobtainable ideas floating about on the internet and social media. A micro wedding can therefore mean less costs. Alternatively you may choose a to go with a micro wedding so that you can splash the cash and get a bit more bang for your buck.
It’s a more intimate occasion
If the thought of standing up in front of loads of people fills you with dread then a micro wedding could be for you. Less people equals less eyes watching you throughout your ceremony. Choosing a micro wedding also means that you will have more time to spend with guests, it can be tiring having to socialise with a large number of people. Because you have less guests it means you will have time to spend with everyone. It also means that the time you do spend with these people can be more meaningful. Less guests also means that you can have more time to spend together as a couple. There will be less people vying for your attention, less people trying to get a selfie with you or a photo of you both together.
Less stressful
Less guests can also mean less stress. With a smaller number of people you won’t have to chase up lots of RSVPS, or attempt to create a seating plan that won’t upset your nan. There will also be less dietary requirements to deal with too. Less stress can mean a more enjoyable experience planning your wedding as well as a more relaxing atmosphere on the day itself.
One final thought.
If you have a large family or a wide circle of close friends it can be a tough call deciding on who won’t make the cut. If you are thinking of having a micro wedding ask yourself: who are the people that matter to you the most? When you picture your wedding, who are the people that you truly could not be without?
