5 unique ways to include your favourite music at your wedding.

“Music. It has the power to make us smile, and to bring us to all types of tears.
It can carry us back in time and inspire us to dance in the moment. For all our happiest days there is music” – Unknown.

The music at your wedding doesn’t just have to be reserved for the ceremony entrance, exit or the first dance. Music is such a powerful form of communication it can be a wonderful way for couples to share their story. There are so many ways that you can incorporate music into your wedding. Here are 5 alternative ways to incorporate the music and songs you want into your wedding.

Entrance and exit music.

Gone are the days where a couple has to make do with traditional wedding music for their ceremony. There are now so many options available that enable couples to make their ceremony a truly personal affair. For your ceremony entrance you could walk down the aisle together to a song that you both love. Maybe you both want to walk down the aisle but do it separately to your favourite tune. Your exit music could be something that gets all your guests up singing and dancing as you leave. Maybe you’ll choose a song because of the lyrics as they hold meaning for both of you.

Banners/signs with lyrics.

Why not have banners or signs that feature the lyrics to a song that holds meaning to you both. Alternatively you could have something featuring the lyrics from your favourite band or artist. They could be at the entrance to your ceremony and/or reception venue. Alternatively they could form part of the backdrop to your ceremony. Take a look at Daydreamer creative studio and Let us pretend for inspiration.

Table names

You could have your reception tables named after the titles of your favourite songs or bands. Alternatively you could use vinyl records to display your table names or use cassette tapes as place settings. If you are keen to explore this idea further check out sevens and twelves.

Guest book

Let’s be honest most wedding guest books just end up stuck in a cupboard , never to be seen again. Ask your guests to leave messages on the vinyl records which you can display in your home on walls or as a hanging decoration. Alternatively I love the idea of a guest hit list. Ask your guests to write down a song that they feel reflects you as a couple. After your wedding you can go through all the songs and turn them into a playlist.

Include song lyrics in your ceremony script.

Song lyrics can make a great alternative to the usual ceremony readings that feature at many weddings. Is there a song that holds a special meaning to you both? A song whose lyrics perfectly sum up how you feel about each other or that reflects your relationship. It doesn’t have to be anything romantic or soppy if that’s not your thing. It could be something with a touch of humour. Alternatively you could weave some song lyrics into your ceremony script or your vows.

If you choose to have a church or civil ceremony you will need to check if the music you want to include in your ceremony is permitted. Only certain pieces of music and songs are allowed. If you choose to have a celebrant ceremony there are no restrictions on your music choices.

Are you thinking of adding some music and lyrics to your ceremony, then why not get in touch? I’d love to hear your ideas (and your playlists) and help you to create a soul filled wedding ceremony.
